A university experience for kids

KinderUni Mainz provides a university experience for kids. In the summer term, on Saturdays, the biggest lecture hall at Mainz university opens for students between 8 and 12 with lectures from all academic fields. Here, professors explain why spiders have blue blood or how plants are named. Students can join projects and workshops and they can find out about life in South Africa or how volcanoes erupt. They create their own radio programme and newspaper articles and eat at uni, just like real students. For a few years I supported the KinderUni-team at Mainz university. One lecture was particularly exciting for me: With a philosophy professor we planned a lecture on happiness and performed fairy-tales on stage.
